Kangaroo Island - the 1st

Published: 06.10.2018

Today was a very early wake-up call - the flight to Kingscote on Kangaroo Island departs at 9:45 am. Leaving some of my luggage in Adelaide, the journey is a bit tiring...

The airport is very modern, but not crowded at all. Just after going through passport control, I treat myself to breakfast - scrambled eggs with avocado and looots of coffee... ;-)

The plane is quite small, but the flight only takes 20 minutes - I don't even have to fasten my seatbelt...

My plane into the bush...

At the airport, I am already picked up by my guide - I have booked a guide for the next 3 days - there are only six of us today. We start right away from the airport.

Red sand - and actually a paved road

Our first stop is a beautiful sandy beach with Australian sea lions.

Simply beautiful...

The beach is not just liked by the sea lions...

We are hard to miss...

We love each other so much...

Aren't I beautiful ?

Phew, tourists again...

Will someone finally come and pet us ?

After the sea lions, we make our way to a resort with injured wildlife. But of course, not without making several detours, including to another beautiful beach.

Another beautiful beach...

The breeze is quite nice

And then it's finally time: I see my first wild koala...

Wow - my first wild koala

Upon arriving at the reserve, we see lots of animals... but the highlight is definitely the 'petting session' with the koalas and the kangaroo moms with their joeys...

Kangaroo mom with baby

Echidna

Whatever that is exactly...

They are so cuddly...

So cute, even though still small and agile...

I especially like being scratched behind the ear...

My first big kangaroo

Ouch, that itches...

Being in mom's pouch is the best

Afterwards, we have a late lunch in a truly tropical ambiance...

The day ends with another stunning beach, hidden away - we squeeze through the rocks, but what we see is definitely worth the effort...

What a fantastic bay to end the day

No one in sight...

The sun is slowly setting...

Thousands of sparkling beads in the water...

Afterwards, I check into my Bed & Breakfast - it is beautiful... Really luxurious... and the dinner is also great... As are the local wines... ;-

My B&B for the next 2 days...

Prawn dumplings as an appetizer
