Actually, we had quite a bit planned for today. However, we unexpectedly need to sort out some family matters, so we only have time for a 'small' trip to Marlgu Billabong.

Unfortunately, we made a rookie mistake: we relied on Google for directions and didn’t consult our Hema map. Consequently, we found ourselves on a totally muddy track and soon got stuck. The mud completely clogged the tire treads, leaving the wheels with no grip. Four-wheel drive, even in 'low range' with a differential lock, didn’t help; the car didn’t move an inch! Only after we let half of the air out of the tires, which increased our ground contact area, could we slowly maneuver out of the situation.

On the 'right' path, the destination was quickly and easily reached. The billabong was beautiful, as there were countless birds. The air was filled with the chirping of the 'Plumed Whistling Ducks.' You read that right: these ducks chirp! There were a few more bird species to discover, but we could only identify the Corellas (white cockatoos), the Pied Heron, and the Drafter (a type of cormorant).

As we sat back at the campsite, something was creeping around our car in the darkness. We had hoped it was one of the wallabies that are active here in the evenings. However, when we shone a light into the dark, we were disappointed to find it was just a three-legged dog.
