Darwin, Day 2.

Today we traveled to the edge of the city center with the help of the free public bus system.

First, we were at Cullen Bay. Outside the eponymous resort were cars with smashed windshields. They had been vandalized by an Aboriginal man the night before after he had beaten a local woman badly. However, at the marina and on the beach, everything was very calm. You can tell that the season starts tomorrow. At the “Boatshed” café right at the marina, we were served by a German girl with a delicious, but expensive ($9) cappuccino.

Next, we headed to the botanical garden. Although some things still need to be repaired at the end of the rainy season, there was hardly anyone around. We enjoyed the tropical plant diversity and the cute little birds. Unfortunately, we couldn't convince any of them to stay still for a photo🙃

We expected more from the “Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory”, especially regarding the “Art”. The highlights are the exhibits of boats and Cyclone “Tracey”, which largely wiped out “old Darwin” on Christmas Eve in 1974.

In the late afternoon, we went to Doctors Gully to feed some fish. This is probably more for children, but in the end, we enjoyed the lively activity in the water. We particularly liked the large “Batfish” and the sleek green “Milkfish”.

To conclude, we strolled through Bicentennial Park at sunset once more. Now that work is over, there's actually quite a lot happening here.

In the evening, we went to bed early since we’ll be picked up at 4:30 AM for our journey to Alice Springs.
