On the trail of the platypus

Today we made another attempt to see one of these rare and unique animals that only live in Australia in the wild in Latrobe, the "capital of the platypus". First in the Warrawee Reserve and then in the Tasmanian Arboretum. In the latter, we actually found it! There is a pond with small islands, nestled in wonderful nature with a variety of trees from all over the world. After a long observation of the water surface, we actually spotted it. That's not easy, because the animals spend most of their time underwater and only come up for a few seconds to breathe. It's good to have two pairs of eyes! In addition, the little animal was far away. Too far away to see any details or even take a photo. By the time the camera was pointed at the location, it had already disappeared again.

After observing for a while, we thought we noticed a movement pattern. From that, we extrapolated a well accessible spot. And it actually worked! We even got a nice little video clip out of it (unfortunately, the blog does not support videos).

In the late afternoon, we went shopping for sportswear at kMart in Devonport and visited the lighthouse.
