Away game against Alabama Crimson Tide!

Published: 09.10.2017

Hello everyone,

Another 1.5 weeks gone by. Time flies. Unfortunately, I have been sick lately, which gave me the opportunity to go see an American doctor. We have a Health Center here on campus - so that's where I went. First, a nurse measures your blood pressure, fever, and weight before asking you about all your symptoms and even your sexual activities. I don't know exactly what that has to do with my cold. But in every room, there are free condoms with some very interesting inscriptions (see pictures). Additionally, you can take brochures about every imaginable disease related to sex, and so on. Very interesting :D By now, I'm feeling somewhat better though.

Last weekend, I went out again with Ole Miss Outdoor. This time, there were 4 Germans and the rest were Americans. We went kayaking. Super fun! We were lucky with the weather (it's still around 30 degrees!!) and our camping ground was also okay. The planning was great as always, but the execution not so much. If you plan 3 meals over an open fire, you should also think about firewood. But oh well. The second highlight besides kayaking was the away game of Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. For all non-experts: Alabama has been THE top team in college football for years. Only Clemson is still in the same class, it's incredibly difficult for all other teams to win. Accordingly, we also had a hard time just moving the ball, which resulted in a 66-3 defeat. However, the stadium is truly incredible! Over 100,000 people fit in, the atmosphere was really great! Really impressive. Funny thing is, we were sitting right behind the Ole Miss Marching Band. So we started our own party despite the disappointing game. What was additionally very funny: ESPN broadcasted the game and filmed several disappointed Ole Miss fans after the score was 55-3: US. Afterwards, we received countless messages that we were seen on TV. Very funny! In the highlight clip, you can see us at about 4:15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ6rls_UO2I&t=266s

Overall, a very funny and successful weekend with Jannis, Johannes, and Michi :)

Quite the opposite of this weekend. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. We actually wanted to go to New Orleans but then it started. First, there were various hurricanes and storm warnings, which got worse day by day. At one point, the warning even reached hurricane level 2, which means wind speeds of 154-177 km/h and a rise in water level of 1.7-2.5 meters. Not so funny for a city below sea level. In addition, the car rental agency messed us up by not having our car available at the booked time. That's why we spontaneously decided to stay here and spent Friday daydrinking, eating burgers, and going out. I spent Saturday and Sunday watching football, which, as you know, is not exactly my least favorite activity.

This week, I'm moving again. Already feels like the hundredth time this year... Since the owner of our accommodation changed, several houses are now being renovated and it's our turn... So we have to move a few houses down and of course, pack up all our stuff for that. Moving boxes are not provided, of course... So the whole thing is associated with a lot of stress. All the posters in my room have to come down and be hung up again, the pictures of my favorite fellow students in Heidenheim (right #EugenWG, Vera, Niki, Sascha, and Co.). All the kitchen stuff has to be carried over, the contents of the fridge, and so on. While writing, so many things come to mind that I haven't even thought of yet... But that will pass too, and next week I finally have a week without exams. After 5 weeks, it will be really nice :)

Otherwise, this week there's a country concert in Memphis that I'm going to with Hannah. Finally, we have a home game again on Saturday and it's Homecoming Week. So there's a lot going on here on campus. Homecoming is always celebrated when the football team has been away for a long time and then comes "home" again. I'm looking forward to it!

See you soon!

Franz
