Surfers Paradise / Gold Coast

DAYS 17 - 21

We spent the last few days in Surfers Paradise / Gold Coast. After not liking the Sunshine Coast much, we were a bit skeptical driving south - but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. This part of the East Coast cannot be compared to what we have seen so far. Everyone says it has this 'Miami-style' - I can't judge that, but that's how I imagine Miami to be ;).

We stayed here for 5 nights and the days flew by. There are numerous theme parks in the area and we decided to go to a water park - being a kid again! So, we excitedly packed our bags and off we go... It was cloudy, but we didn't let the weather spoil our fun. As soon as we entered the park, clouds turned into rain clouds, great! And of course, it didn't stop raining all day... I have to admit, that did spoil the fun a little bit because we were really really cold! I'm pretty sure now I know how Kate felt during the sinking of the Titanic... I also felt the thousand stings on my body!!!! Fortunately, the next day brought us sunshine again.

We rented bicycles and explored the Gold Coast. In the evening, we went out to party for the first time in Australia. Surfers Paradise is known for its good club scene, so we didn't want to miss out. We were convinced to join a pub crawl, where you move from club to club with 200 people, thinking we could quickly meet new people. Unfortunately, we were about 10 years above the average age, it happens. Accordingly, our evening was short, as the so-called good club scene had more of a "Mallorca" touch than I would call it good. But you try everything once. Today was our household day with laundry and shopping... they have that here too, only we are spared the cleaning - an advantage of camper life! In the evening, we visited the "Nightquarter" market.

It was a food market with live music and it really reminded me a little bit of the German Christmas market (www.nightquarter.com.au).

Tomorrow we are going to Byron Bay... I'm excited!
