04/01/2020 to 07/01/2020 - Niagara Falls / Canada

Published: 29.05.2022

Lukas, Ben, and I set off from Toronto to Niagara Falls. The bus journey took about 2 hours. We are staying here for a few days and have rented a whole house because we are meeting our travel group again today. My mom, Anja, Ben's mom, and her friend from New York arrived with a fully packed rental car. So now the seven of us will spend the rest of our vacation here.

From the Canadian town of Niagara Falls, we were able to admire the Canadian, American, and Bridal Veil waterfalls. The American ones have a straight cliff edge, while the Canadian ones are shaped like a horseshoe, which is why they are also called Horseshoe Falls. They all belong to the Niagara River, which connects Lake Erie with Lake Ontario and forms the border between the USA and Canada. At this spectacular natural spectacle, up to 6,400 cubic meters of water plunge 57 meters into the depths every second. We were deeply impressed when we saw the waterfalls. We spent a long time observing the water masses and taking countless photos of this force of nature. But there was much more to see here. So we bought a Niagara Falls Pass, which includes a bus ticket, a visit to the Butterfly Conservatory and the Floral Showhouse, and the Journey behind the Falls. In the Butterfly Conservatory, 2,000 butterflies of 45 different species live. We watched them fly and eat. Most of them were not shy at all and settled everywhere. After so much butterfly diversity, we continued into the plant world of the Floral Showhouse. For over 70 years, the floral splendor of orchids and tropical plants has been adjusted seasonally here. We were able to admire a floral Christmas wonderland. In the extensive garden of the Floral Showhouse, we discovered a miniature version of a place on Canadian Puddle Lake. Of course, we also went out in the evening and admired the Christmas lights throughout the town and the waterfalls illuminated in colorful lights. The Niagara Falls are not only a place that you absolutely must see once in a lifetime during the day. On the last day, we took a trip behind the waterfalls. Here we received some background information about the falls and then went through a tunnel system to two openings. From here, we saw, felt, and heard the gigantic water masses once again intensively.
