Day 25 Oahu - Hilton Lagoon & Waikiki Beach & Walk

Published: 04.12.2022

August 16, 2022

Today we can sleep in, which we do.

After breakfast, we go to Fort DeRussy Beach around 11 o'clock and then continue to the Hilton Hawaiian Village to swim in the lagoon.

The water in the lagoon is significantly colder than last time - not a big deal for me - but what is really unpleasant is the many fish in the lagoon. Whole schools swim in the shallow water and the lagoon smells very strongly of fish.

We still jump in the water for a short while, but it feels like swimming in a fish pond. Really unpleasant.

We exchange the lagoon for the beach across from the Hilton Hawaiian, but there are only rocks at the entrance to the water. You can't get in without painful feet. We walk on eggshells into deeper water, which is rather cloudy in this bay.

I am disappointed, I had imagined everything differently.

So we grab our stuff and walk back to Fort DeRussy Beach and go back into the ocean here to swim. There are also many rocks in the water here. After about an hour, we don't feel like the ocean anymore and go back to the apartment.

We relax on the rooftop terrace at the Rooftop Pool and in the early afternoon we walk to Waikiki Beach with our bathing suits, through the Surf Alley, where a gang with huge surfboards leads to Waikiki Beach. The husband and daughter rent a surfboard and my son and I stay on the beach.

After an hour, the surfers are back, more or less successful, because there weren't many waves and if there were, 20 surfers fought for one wave. Both agree that surfing on Kauai was much more fun.

Crazy, who would have thought... Here we are at Waikiki Beach and then this happens. Well. They want to try again tomorrow or the day after.

We stroll back through the shopping street, past the Police Department, where wreaths are laid in memory of 2 murdered police officers. Unfortunately, it's not all 'heavenly world' here either, and I briefly see 'Hawaii Five-0' in front of my eyes. Even paradise has its downsides...

At the Royal Hawaiian Center, we happen to see the free Hula Show that takes place every Monday to Saturday at 5:30 pm.

The show is really good, much better than the show that took place on the beach.

At the Royal Hawaiian Center we have dinner in the food court and then stroll along the shopping street. Here there are street artists (we know most of the rip-off shows 1:1 from New York), dance performances, singers, people with animals (parrots, etc.) who want a lot of money for a snapshot with the animals, etc.

Typical big city.

We stroll along Waikiki Beach Walk and stop by various shops, but we don't expect any real bargains. We compare prices for our chosen souvenirs, the delicious macadamia chocolate pralines and various types of coffee. But today we don't buy anything.

Let's see what we will do tomorrow.
