In Waitomo Cave we are waiting for the cyclone Gabrielle to pass. We are experiencing its effects in heavy rain and storms.
After two days of continuous rain, we visit the caves and observe glowworms. The rest of the day is spent reading and relaxing in a hot outdoor pool, enjoying the rain from above. Wonderful!! During the night, the storm rages on, but the next day, it's sunny as if nothing had happened.
We take one of the most beautiful hikes through the wilderness. Gabrielle turns small streams into raging rivers that wind through the mountain cave system. We wade through mud and flooded meadows to return to the campsite, where the beautiful hot pool awaits us. 😀
