Auckland is largely located in a volcanic field with 4 active volcanoes. The last eruption was 600 years ago and we hope it stays that way for the time being. Our time in New Zealand is coming to an end and we are spending our last days in the beautiful weather in the city and on the nearby island of Waiheke.
As tourists, we hardly notice the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle.
Yesterday on Waiheke Island, we took a guided tour of 4 wineries and drove all over this beautiful island.
Today we visited the most important and architecturally impressive War Memorial Museum and learned about Maori culture and the formation of New Zealand.
We ended the day with an excellent gin cocktail on the 20th floor of the Sheraton Hotel, with breathtaking views of Auckland.
