Peru_2025 - Tag 16: Machu Picchu

Of course, we got up early again today to visit perhaps the most famous sight in Peru: Machu Picchu. At first, everything was still shrouded in clouds, and the iconic image that everyone probably knows was only vaguely visible. Here and there, however, a gap in the clouds opened up, providing us with a more mystical than classic view. Other than that, one can only be impressed by what the Incas created. You can feel annoyed by the influencers 🙄. After the highlight of the day, we had a second breakfast, and to pass the time until our train departure towards Cusco, we took a hike to two waterfalls. The entrance fee of about five euros slightly bothered us. Nature is for everyone; besides, while they were nice, they were nothing special. Our guide from yesterday would have said: 'that is'. In Cusco, we only spend the night to fly directly to Puerto Maldonado tomorrow. But first, we need to arrive. Our train has been stuck in the middle of nowhere for quite some time (technical defect). For the 26th anniversary of PeruRail, we received a fabric bag and a sunflower as gifts. It will probably wilt by the time we arrive. The train may be stationary, but inside, that is not the case. A group of English people is exceeding the limits of the noise-canceling headphones (I initially thought they weren't working).
