Pre-trip Today we started the first leg of our journey home. We traveled from Puerto Maldonado back to Lima. There, we booked a nice airport hotel.

Naples instead of Nizwa
Due to the geopolitical situation, a plan B was necessary three weeks before departure to Oman.
Naples was described online as loud, dirty, and hectic. That’s true.
The day began with a tour of the historic city center. The cathedral, the Street of the Nativity craftsmen, and the Santa Chiara Monastery (my personal highlight) were essential stops. The enveloped Christ in the Cappella Sansevero can only be seen if you’ve made a reservation in advance. There was nothing spontaneous about it.
Next, we headed to the Spanish Quarter, where Maradona is honored. You feel like he is revered all over the city as well. The Galleria Umberto I was impressive architecturally, and the Toledo metro station is definitely worth a visit.
Despite a lift ride and a metro segment, over 30,000 steps are logged. That’s how it feels.
