The best things happen unexpectedly

09/02/2019 - 10/02/2019: Day 19-20

Song: Vengaboys - Boom Boom Boom Boom!

The title already says it all - the best things happen unexpectedly. On the evening of 08/02/2019, we went to the beach. However, Julie's navigation device wanted to lead us to a point where we could see little baby penguins instead of the beach. My little dream came true. <3

The original plan was to spend the next few days in Cradle Mountain National Park. Yesterday we also drove there. But it was raining the whole time and the weather forecast for the next few days did not give any hope for improvement. Therefore, we reluctantly decided to take the 5-hour drive back to Hobart. We arrived at the beach in Hobart around 9 pm. Although we were actually a bit tired, we didn't want to miss the chance to see bioluminescence (explanation: a special type of chemiluminescence that leads to self-illumination in plants and animals. The luminescence is based on the oxidation of certain fluorescent substances (luciferine) under the catalytic action of the enzyme luciferase).

During this time, we drove to several beaches on the east coast of Hobart and I saw the most beautiful starry sky of my life. If I could, I would have frozen that moment. I have never seen so many stars before.

We only saw a glimpse of the bioluminescence. Normally, it shines blue, but we only saw a few particles sparkling on the beach. We want to go searching again today.

We spent today in Hobart, walked through the city, visited the harbor festival, and demonstrated our hula hoop skills in the park. When I returned to the car, guess what? I had a parking ticket because I exceeded the parking time by 10 minutes! The Australians charge a whopping 40 dollars for that - did I mention in one of the previous entries that I think Australians are super nice? I take that back. :-D

The plan for the next few days is to sell the girls' car and then fly to Melbourne. Let's see how quickly that is possible.

Kiss, M.
