Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City)/Vietnam

22.5.2024 Phu My

We didn't arrive on land until after 10:00 a.m. and were taken to the freight port area by shuttle bus. There we were still far from any civilization and had to take a taxi.

I teamed up with a couple from Iowa, we negotiated a price with one of the drivers present for a maximum of six hours and set off.

Our original destination was Ho Chi Minh City, but when the driver said it would take at least 1 1/2 hours each way, we changed our minds and stayed near Phu My.

First we visited the Catholic Church of Saint Anthony, a magnificent building with exceptionally beautiful statues in front of it. Unfortunately, the church was closed.

Then we wanted to take a closer look at the Christ of Vung Tau, which some passengers had seen from the ship, but that didn't work out. Christ has his lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and doesn't want to be disturbed. Anyway, the many steps and rules (no shorts, no shoes???) weren't particularly inviting anyway.

So we drove on to the Vung Tau Cable Car. This cable car made in Austria took us high above the city. We enjoyed the view and a cold beer.

Afterwards we were hungry. Our driver knew a restaurant with local dishes and we left feeling full.

We started the return journey and arrived back at the ship in time without any stress.

We had missed most of the show in the theater, "Music Tales of Vietnamese Tradition." I only caught 1 1/2 pieces of music.

In the evening we were bored by the juggler Michael Connell. Yes, he is also a master of his craft. But let's be honest, watching balls or clubs being thrown through the air is not really exciting.
