The city of Hsipaw in the Shan region marked the northernmost point of my journey so far and was the starting point for a trek into the mountains. Beforehand, we treated ourselves to a fancy hotel with a pool and the best view to prepare for the hike.

Our group consisted of a mix of Canada, USA, Australia, England, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, our two Burmese guides, two porters, and 2 dogs.

On the first day, we covered 600 meters of elevation in 6 hours. Due to the steep ascent and temperatures of over 30 degrees, we were completely sweaty in a short amount of time. We reached our camp at an altitude of nearly 1,400 meters, which was far away from any civilization and offered a unique view.

As a reward for the effort, we had a delicious dinner, a bucket shower, and Happy Water (homemade rice liquor) which, in combination with some drinking games, provided entertainment and a deep sleep.

The next morning, we watched the colorful sunrise together and returned to civilization with a stop at the waterfall.

Thanks to the great atmosphere in our group, this was the best trek of my journey so far!
