The wonderful holiday island of Langkawi is located in northwestern Malaysia and is the main island of around 100 smaller islands. Large parts of the island are covered by dense rainforest, which clings to the steep slopes of the many hills and mountains. In April, I visited Langkawi with part of my family, so I already knew the island and its main attractions. We stayed in a small bungalow just a few meters from the beach. At our neighboring beach, Cenang Beach, there are numerous hotels, water sports centers, restaurants, and bars. Along the road parallel to the beach, there are more venues, as well as many shops and small markets. We spent two nights in Langkawi. During this time, we enjoyed a day at the beach with a jet ski ride and a beautiful sunset. In the evening, we dined at a restaurant with delicious Italian dishes. I was really glad to finally eat something other than rice. The locals also spent their Sunday with their families at the beach, enjoying the sun and water activities. I found the picture of tourists and Malaysians together on the beach very beautiful. We then continued our journey with a ferry to Penang. George Town is the colorful, multicultural capital of the Malaysian island of Penang. George Town is especially known worldwide for its beautiful street art. Every month, new creative artworks appear on the walls of the houses, giving the old town its unique splendor. Penang has plenty of charming narrow streets with old colonial buildings to offer. We particularly liked Armenian Street and Cannon Street in George Town. We took a tourist bus around Penang and visited the various attractions.
Personally, I really like the country Malaysia. The people are very warm and helpful. We were greeted friendly at every corner, and many children waved at me or tried to communicate with me in English. 60 percent of the people are Muslim, which is why most women and some children wear headscarves. The head coverings are colorful and often adorned with different patterns. From what I have experienced, the women here are very open-minded. They ride jet skis or even work as policewomen.
