Hello dear ones!
Our day today was really nice and relaxing ☺️
We stayed in bed a little longer because we stayed up pretty late yesterday. As we were sitting on the terrace (like every morning), we overheard another guest asking about renting bicycles. Actually, you could rent them directly from our accommodation - at the same price as the rental places on the street. Great! We took two bikes for two days. Shortly after, we got ready and started cycling. On the way, we bought some drinks and headed towards the place with the illuminating plankton. Our hope was to find a nice beach there to spend the afternoon.
On the way, we made a stop to have something to eat. Kevin had a sandwich and I had some guacamole. The food was delicious and we ordered some to take away. Strengthened, we continued our journey through rough terrain, up small hills, and through big puddles.
When we reached the desired bay, we found a beautiful spot with a pier all to ourselves. Occasionally, people passed by, took photos, and moved on. There was a sandbank between the shores that was not visible, but you could walk across it. We watched some of the visitors as they walked back and forth.
Unfortunately, we didn't have much luck with the weather again, but we really enjoyed the quiet afternoon in this secluded bay!
Initially, we wanted to wait there until the phenomenon of the glowing water started, but when it started to get dark, it got pretty cold and we had some concerns about the way back through the puddles and bushes with the crocodiles.
After the sun had set, we moved to the other side of the bay - where we had seen other people - and the way back would be easier to ride.
Once we arrived there, we met a local couple. They confirmed that we were at the right place, but we were there way too early. The water wouldn't start glowing until later - at the earliest at 8 p.m., sometimes not until 10 p.m. The time was only 6:30 p.m. and we had been there the whole afternoon already. So we decided to go out for dinner. The way was longer than expected and also full of puddles. Kevin got stuck in one of them, his foot got stuck, and he sank into the mud up to his calf. We both laughed and suddenly we had a new goal: go back to our accommodation, take a shower, and put on clean clothes ☺️
Once we arrived there, there was still mud coming out of Kevin's shoes! We both took our shoes into the shower and rinsed them off thoroughly.
Next stop: restaurant ☺️
When we returned to our accommodation, it was already 10:30 p.m. and we definitely didn't feel like going out in the dark. Well, tomorrow Peter & Jenny will visit us here in Holbox and then we will try again with the glowing water ☺️
We took care of all the pictures and it's already 12:15 a.m. now ☺️
You'll hear from us again tomorrow 😉
Until then!
