Mekong River, Laos

From Huay Xai, at the Thai border, you have the option of taking a bus with hundreds of curves along the mountains to reach Luang Prabang or leisurely cruising on the Mekong River for two days with the Slow Boat. We naturally chose the latter option. And it was truly a great experience. While comfortably sitting on modified car seats, you pass by small fishing villages and beautiful landscapes. Along the way, the boat stops to pick up and drop off locals from villages without a road network.

We spent the night in a village halfway through before continuing on another boat the next day.

On this boat trip, we also met Jasi and Matt. A Swiss-Australian couple who are cycling from Switzerland to Australia. It was incredibly exciting to listen to their stories of their journey through countries like Georgia, Iran, and India. It makes you feel lazy and unadventurous. But to each their own way of traveling.

After two days, we arrived in the old royal city of Luang Prabang, relaxed and with an unforgettable experience.
