yes one could say that. First came the Chinese, then the Portuguese, then the Dutch, then the English, at some point the Japanese also came, and now I was here in Melaka.

Although the Chinese are still here or already again, yes they are everywhere here.

Am I even in Malaysia or rather in China?

Yes, historically Melaka is extremely significant, clearly located on the oldest and longest navigated shipping route "Malacca Strait". This is also evident everywhere here in the old city center of the old town. The Jonker Street here is all Chinese, on the other side of the bridge in front of the red square are the old Dutch buildings.

They have also rebuilt the old Sultan's Palace.

A bit further up the river you can still find remnants of old wooden houses of the old Malays. There is also an Indian (yes, they also came at some point) quarter and a Portuguese quarter.

Yes, as you can see, there is a lot to see here and everything is within walking distance, so it's clear that I was quite footsore in the evening. Nevertheless, I still walked the 5 km to the artificial island, here there is a ghost town, if you will. Someone wanted to prove themselves again and build a whole new neighborhood, but apparently it has been suspended and everything is empty. Except for the mosque on the beach, which is in operation and where you can meet some people. The reason is that everyone wants to see the sunset, just like me. Oh yes, then I had to walk the 5 km back...

Yes, I was also in jail the next day, voluntarily for an hour! Don't worry, I haven't committed any crimes, it is a former prison that has been converted into a museum.
