24th day El Campelo to Gata de Gorgos

Adventurous day. In the hinterland, we had to cross a mountain range and we were warned in advance by the route planners about the altitude meters to be overcome. The targeted, affordable and available hotel was already close to the predetermined limit. Since the inclines on the national road N332 are maximum 8% and therefore always drivable for us, we decided to cover some kilometers. The 'Bundesstraße' is like a freeway here in urban areas. With guardrails and entrances and exits and large roundabouts. As a cyclist, you have to be very careful. In between, we had a high-rise skyline like in the USA (see picture). We let our navigation guide us for the first and last kilometers. Big mistake! The last 12 km was a climb, first paved, then so steep that we had to push our bikes, followed by a gravel road, then a hiking path, until we reached the top of the mountain. At that point, we decided to turn back. Today, we rode over 80 km with a detour, but the last 15 km to the hotel were downhill🙂

Adventurous but beautiful. Oh, we almost lost our most important device (Stefan's mobile phone), it jumped out of the holder in an underpass, and if I hadn't shouted STOP immediately, a car would have run over it. It would have been a disaster, no navigation, no hotel, no blog.........
