If it stinks so much in hell, we really don't want to go there 😁
The earthquakes of the last centuries have created a geothermally impressive and sulfur-smelling landscape here through eruption.
We start our hike - like hundreds of other travelers - at the geyser, which is brought to daily eruption with some human help. Afterwards, we stroll for over an hour through the wonderland of bubbling mud pools and colorful smoking basins.
Since the sunny weather continues, we continue to the bay of Mt Maunganui. We really like the little town. On the way to the viewpoint on the mountain, we meet what feels like all the residents jogging. In the bay, there is a group of surfers - maybe even a lesson? Surfing is taught at the school here. The beach volleyball courts are also crowded. What a sporty city with beautiful apartments and an even more beautiful bay.
I enjoy the fresh air up here. What a liberating feeling to fill the lungs with fresh, clean air and free the nose from the smell of sulfur.
