From the heat of the big city we drive by bus for about 4 hours to the Cameron Highlands (CH).... looking forward to our "mountain party". Our first impression... it's like being in Austria or Switzerland.... Only the snow is missing 😉. The mountains are up to 2000m high. During the day it is pleasantly warm, only in the evening it gets a bit chilly. These are optimal conditions for tea and vegetable cultivation.
Strawberries are also grown in large quantities in the CH and marketed accordingly.... self-picking, sweets made and with strawberries as well as other souvenirs of all kinds.... a bit like "Karls Erdbeerhof".
The town of Tanah Rata (1300 - 1500m high) reminds us in places of a spa resort. Here we checked into the "Sleepbox Hotel". The name says it all. A large room with several sleeping compartments/boxes. Something different.... we liked it.
In the Cameron Highlands there are probably about 10,000 Land Rovers.... although it is doubtful that all of them are still roadworthy 🤔. With a Land Rover Defender we take a tour through the tea plantations and into the Mossy Forest... probably the oldest jungle in the world... over roots and through mud.... The challenge is not to slip or stumble.
Since the tea plantations of BOH Tea (Best Of Highlands) are the flagship, a stop at the tea factory is a must.
Other tourist 'hotspots'.... like one of the many strawberry farms and the butterfly farm were visited. The latter was particularly interesting for Paul because of various reptiles and beetles 🦎🐍🕷️🦂.
