I still have to report on yesterday evening on the ship:
The quite large ship with around 200 people left at 9 p.m. First we sat inside and watched a presentation about the Northern Lights. Then we went to the two decks outside. Thankfully it wasn't very cold so we were able to stand outside and wait for things to come. Suddenly the slogan “Northern lights on the right side of the ship” came over the loudspeaker. All you could actually see with the naked eye was a green shimmer. But if you held your phone to this glow in night mode, you would first see the Northern Lights. It even moved a little, getting brighter and darker again.
Unfortunately I couldn't place my large camera with a tripod on the ship (there was simply not enough space and once the lights appeared here, then there. People were constantly moving back and forth - nothing can be done with a tripod and in peace), that's why the pictures taken with the cell phone are blurry. I never thought that the Northern Lights would be so clearly visible, especially with the help of a cell phone!!
There were probably some on the trip anyway, we've seen glimmers sometimes, but never looked at them with our cell phone. As the lights get stronger, you can see them with the naked eye, but so far at least not as well as on the phone's camera screen.
At times the lights were almost like a shower of lights, sometimes completely condensed like a ball. Unique! We were very happy to have booked this trip! Now we know that the Northern Lights can be seen even when the weather is not entirely clear. You just have to use your cell phone to help you. And maybe we'll get a very clear view after all... who knows... tonight we'll try it on our own... we'll go where it's just very dark and wait... maybe we'll be lucky!
After midnight we are back at the campsite and toast to our first Northern Lights!
In the morning after breakfast we set off on foot into the city (a good half hour). There we look at the “Polaria”, a very beautiful northern sea aquarium and take part in feeding the seals. These animals are very intelligent and need training to maintain their balance. You can literally feel how much fun they have playing with the coaches.

On the way home we can capture a bit of the city and its beautiful surroundings and finally visit the Arctic Cathedral.
