Tour data: Distance 125 kilometers, Ø 21.8 km/h, travel time 5:48 hours
Weather: Absolutely optimal cycling weather with practically no wind
Last night, I spent wonderful hours in Schilksee at the Olympiahafen with my friends from Kiel. Dear Ulla: Thank you very much for the time together and the invitation to dinner.
I left as the first guest from the hotel at 07:30. There were 4 more eBikes in the garage. These people probably wanted to have breakfast, but that's only available from 8:00 a.m. on weekends.
There are very spacious cycle paths across Kiel. These are signposted with Fahrradstrasse. The most famous is number 10. It also accompanied me for a while until I had to leave Kiel in a southerly direction.
At the large bridge over the Kiel Canal, I had to take a detour because the bridge is being renovated. And as a stranger, finding the right way was not even easy with Komoot.
Today, too, I generally had many cycle paths, often far from the road. Unfortunately, the path on the Elbedamm was denied to me because a drawbridge remained open until 5:00 p.m. But I didn't want to wait that long. The bike path along the road was pleasant and probably faster than the path on the dam.
A city that is taken over by happiness is called Glückstadt. And it is precisely from this city that the ferry across the Elbe goes. I was lucky and was able to drive directly onto the ferry without stopping. Shortly afterwards, it was already leaving. The crossing takes about 30 minutes. In total, there are 4 ferries in operation, which means a short waiting time for cars as well.
Regarding my booked hotel in Stade, there was a surprise. Due to overbooking, the hotel then booked a reservation for me at a nearby hotel. So nothing dramatic, just drive there briefly and the rest is very positive.
