DUBAI - Desert Tour

On my second and last day in Dubai, I spontaneously booked a desert safari! I was picked up from my hotel by an off-road vehicle and first went sightseeing through the city with our friendly guide. This gave me a great and different view of the city.

We drove along 'Happiness Street' and passed by the palace of Prince Hamdan bin Muhammad Al Maktum, who occupies almost half of Dubai with his palace, other residences, and areas with camel farms. You can recognize the royals by their license plates, as the numbers 1-100 are reserved for them.

After a half-hour drive, we arrived at the desert of Dubai, where the sand turns from brown to red due to its iron content. And then it started: Our guide turned on Arabic music and raced with the off-road vehicle through the desert, up and down the sand dunes, like on a roller coaster ride! In between, we stopped again to admire the sunset, for example. For me and the others in my car, it was an incredible experience and highly recommended for anyone on vacation there, as it is a complete contrast to the city center of Dubai!

The whole tour took 6 hours, and halfway through, we arrived at the camp where various activities such as camel riding, henna painting, and shisha smoking were offered. Later, there was a huge buffet with traditional food for everyone, and we were entertained with a typical dance, a fire show, and a belly dance! Overall, it was a great afternoon/evening, and it was a great decision to take this tour because it allows you to see parts of Dubai that you wouldn't see at first glance and it's not possible for tourists to reach those areas without a car. So highly recommended! :)

Fact at the end:

Our guide explained to us the dress code and reasons of the traditional residents of Dubai. The people there believe in Mohammed as the final prophet after Jesus, and the men in Dubai wear the white robes because Mohammed said: 'Live your life as simply as you can'. So they always wear the same clothing in the simple color white, and they have a special fabric so that it doesn't get hot underneath the long robes. On the other hand, women wear burkas because of their husbands, as their truth and true beauty should be hidden only for their husband. It must be a great love for a man if you're willing to lift your veil over your mouth for every bite...

Different countries, different customs :)
