Up, up and away! That's how our day starts. In the morning, we're not very hungry - so we decide to walk the 2km path to the Lighthouse of Byron Bay. The temperature at half past 8 is pleasant and exercise stimulates the appetite. We start walking and realize that the path is constantly up and down - more than expected. So we have plenty of steps before breakfast. Along the way, we also discover some other bays. But above all, we see dolphins jumping out of a wave in a bay! There are numerous dolphins there, as we can see fins or the famous sprays everywhere. We pause for a while and start another ascent.
We pass a sign that says: 'Most eastern point of mainland Australia'. Good to know :) On top, the white lighthouse is perched, which we saw in action yesterday evening. Finally, we make our way back, which is also very hilly. At 10:15 we are back at the campsite and now we are definitely hungry. We grab a Chai Latte from the Take Away and go to Vicky. There, we unpack almost all of our supplies onto the table and enjoy a hearty and well-deserved brunch.
In the meantime, we have both read our exchanged books. So we need new ones, because reading is very relaxing in the evening or at the beach. In BB there is a bookstore where we spend about 20 minutes or more. The existing order gives us some trouble, but we find what we're looking for (or at some point we just grab the next best thing). The almost 2-hour morning walk has taken its toll on us. Therefore, we now go to the beach and soon into the sea. But on the way there we pass a funny guy - he skillfully swings a hula hoop ring around his waist and sings non-stop: 'Hula hula, Byron Bay'. A bit more creative in personal crowd-funding. The waves and currents in the sea are much more challenging than yesterday, so we soon head back to shore. We only interrupt our beach stay for an iced coffee stop.
Shortly after 6pm we go back to Vicky's and have dinner. We play a few rounds of cards and are being eaten alive by some mosquitoes. But luckily we have the Heat-it. We are looking forward to showering and closing for today.
Ps. Tonight, the smoke detector in Vicky's goes off... a little déjà vu or déjà écouté
