Puerto Varas

The city is truly a dream. On clear days, you have mountains and volcanoes all around that you can almost touch. Additionally, the city is located on the shores of the second largest lake in Chile.

To experience nature here, I rented a bicycle for a day to ride along the lake shore and over a few hills. I really enjoyed that, even though my bottom was quite sore in the evening. It was more of a bike trip, as there weren't many paved roads on my route. Afterwards, I took it a bit easier and visited a nature reserve with the Petrohue Waterfalls by bus. Another beautiful excursion. I actually wanted to climb the Osorno volcano, which you can see in the pictures. But I should have done that on the first day, as it was unfortunately not possible anymore due to wind and weather. Too bad, but I will probably try my luck again on the way back north. The view from the volcano is said to be breathtaking. On a rainy day, I also visited the nearby city of Puerto Montt, but I didn't like it at all. The city was nothing special, and due to the bad weather, I didn't have any views either.

With that said, I really liked Puerto Varas even more. I can definitely recommend this city to anyone traveling in Patagonia.
