We were warned about the Duck Canon and its 35 tunnels being treacherous. Many vehicles had permanent reminders of it. Well, our darling Maggi handled the 22 kilometer route. The route was truly a highlight. Vertical cliffs, dubious tunnels, bottomless abysses, and a beautiful panorama. We reached the camping site in Caraz and needed a relaxing beer first 😊.

After a day and a half of relaxation and many new tips from other overlanders, we headed to the ruins of Chavin de Huantar. This civilization lived long before the Incas. Their distinctive feature: reliefs with animal representations. The complex was built around 1,000 BC and has a main temple with a huge plaza. However, the most exciting thing about this UNESCO World Heritage site is the underground tunnel labyrinth. After a few climbing challenges, you can access the narrow underground passages and galleries. Some parts are quite eerie due to the lack of lighting.
