We crossed the border to Chile today after three exhausting days! (-10 degrees / 4730m)
Now we're sitting by the pool in San Pedro de Atacama at 29 degrees / 2401m, well deserved!
But now to the adventure ;-)
After flying with the Banana Bomber from La Paz to Uyuni (Amaszonas Airline), we were taken to the tourist center for a coffee!
This is what a travel agency looks like (see picture)...
Then we started with an old Nissan and 4 other nice people (French and Irish) on board across the salt desert!
Now we're no longer afraid of potholes and objects on the road! The trick is as follows:
Drive over them at about 90 km/h, listen to loud music and chew coca leaves during the drive!!!
You can see a picture of our trusted driver below!
The landscape is characterized by endless vastness and endless gravel roads, past magnificent mountains and panoramas!
We will also never forget the animal world: flamingos as far as the eye can see, wild rabbits, coyotes, etc...
Oh yeah, and who says you can't go fishing in a salt desert??? ;-)
Accommodation topic (briefly described):
The moment when you drive towards a mountain settlement (after 10 hours) on the bumpy road... and you think:
Please not this collection of huts!!!!
This was converted stables without hot water and electricity if the generator from the friend wasn't switched on in time!
Unfortunately a bit cold at around 4650m! But there was nothing living under the open thatched roofs at this altitude!
Fortunately, we had booked the Junior Suite! (See picture) In short, we had our own bathroom! That was worth gold!
The evenings were fun with great people and card games like Ich and Ines love them. (She wins and I have no idea)!
Before crossing the border to Chile, we made a stop at 5050m and visited hot springs and geysers to take a bath!
Greetings from the sun lounger
Markus and Ines
