I live here in Ludwigsdorf, Klein Windhoek, one of the good neighborhoods of this city. The living conditions here are largely 'Western', except for the fact that there is no public transport and instead everyone travels around the city by taxi for a small fee. Walking or cycling is very uncommon.
In the 'informal settlements' like Katutura, where a large part of the city's population now lives, people (mostly newcomers from rural areas looking for work in the capital) live in makeshift shacks made of corrugated iron, usually without adequate water supply and sanitation, where they endure for several years until plots and houses are allocated to them.
