Kitten found

Actually, we wanted to add this little entry to the previous one, but we thought that Nia deserves her own.
But let's start from the beginning: It was pouring rain when we arrived at a remote campground, hours away from Wellington. Still in the rain and now in complete darkness due to the time difference, we cooked with the unpleasant company of an annoying and persistent stray cat. The rain didn't stop the next morning, and now, in addition to the cat, a rooster wouldn't leave us alone.
When we finished breakfast, a German girl told us that there was a tiny little kitten under our car, which had already briefly dashed across the campground the night before.
When we looked under our car, we found nothing at first except a sock. But after some time, we could see a little ball of wool, from which two bright green eyes looked at us. Since we wanted to leave soon, we tried for a long time to get close to the little cat, which had snuggled up behind our front tires. The black kitten that came out after a while was so small that it could fit in the palm of a hand. It was trembling heavily, so we picked it up and put it in a cozy jacket to warm it up. The stray cat didn't care about the kitten at all, and there was no house in sight.

Since the kitten was so tiny, very thin, and had been wandering without its mother in the evening and in the morning, we reluctantly decided to take it to an animal shelter. We would have loved to keep it and take it to Germany!!
During the one-hour car ride, where the still unnamed animal was sleeping on Meret's lap, we thought of a name.
We came up with Nia because it was supposed to be a abbreviation of Ninja, because she had hidden so well and was perfectly camouflaged with her black fur on the car tire.

When we arrived at the animal shelter, we had to hand Nia over to the receptionist, who gave the famished cat something to eat. We left the car without the kitten and still mourn for her, but we are convinced that she is doing very well now!
