Day 2 of our journey is coming to an end as we relax by the Almsee in the evening. Surrounded by mountains, the sun sets a little earlier here, so I have already lit a few candles (partly because of the many mosquitoes).
After starting our day in Passau, following the Inn River towards Austria, we visited the ceramic town of Gmunden (guess why!) by the Traunsee during the day. With its small shops and winding alleys, this town of 13,000 inhabitants reminded me a little bit of Italy. However, there was no ice cream or cappuccino because it was too crowded.
After a brief discussion and checking our great Park4night app, we decided to go to the Almsee, right along the (oh wonder) Alm in the Almtal (the Austrians really made it visitor-friendly). The road is a bit like a very shortened Route 66. Occasionally a car or motorcycle passes by, otherwise you can only hear the ducks quacking and the fish splashing when they jump out of the water. We briefly dipped our toes in the mountain lake, but then decided against swimming in the evening. Let's see if there will be an early swim tomorrow.
