26.03.2023 from Byron Bay to Pottsville
It rained heavily last night, the neighboring properties are flooded, we are lucky that we didn't leave any equipment outside. We pack up and leave, first back to Byron Bay Lighthouse. Our guide sarcastically remarks to find a parking space in time, as they are limited and expensive near the lighthouse. We settle in and walk halfway up to the easternmost point of the Australian mainland. In the water, we see the surfers lying, waiting for "the" wave. Today, the sea is relatively calm.
We drive back to the beach and swim, finally we stay in the water for longer. The waves are high and when they break, it knocks our legs away, but a little further away, the waves roll and it's fun to be in the water. However, the undertow of the waves is strong, we always have to keep that in mind.
We look for the next place that has a campsite and nearby restaurants, and we find one online, in Pottsville. Unfortunately, this information costs us 188 €. We are parked in a no-parking zone, and even on Sunday at 12, the municipality enforces the traffic regulations. I didn't make a mistake, we have to pay a fine of 283 AUD.
We continue to Pottsville, the campsite is quickly found, we try to check in for the flight on Tuesday. We succeed only until Singapore.
Today we go out to eat, after the disappointing restaurant visit yesterday, we choose a Thai restaurant. We are satisfied, full and impressed, these hosts are content with 45 €.
Tomorrow we drive to Brisbane, it's only 136 km to the next spot, then we prepare the car for return.
