Julian developed a high fever overnight, which really disrupted our night. Thank God we have enough fever-reducing medication with us. Nonetheless, we only got up sometime after 9 o'clock and didn't leave until around 11 o'clock after a hearty breakfast.

Another amazing part of Mount Rainier National Park was on the itinerary.

We walked through a magnificent forest with trees up to 1000 years old and saw a waterfall, all under a pleasant temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.

These trees, along with their cousins on the Pacific coast, surely inspired J.R.R. Tolkien: anyone who sees such trees must believe in Ents.

It was also great that we could cool our feet in a wild mountain river. And it was incredibly beautiful to see how much effort the National Park rangers put into introducing children to the wilderness and nature. At the mountain stream, they actually took out their watercolor palettes and let the children paint pictures with watercolors!
