From the free campsite at Lake Dunstan, we drove through the town of Frankton to Queenstown.
Queenstown itself is only a few streets large and consists mainly of hotels and hostels. In addition to all these hotels, the surrounding area and the drive through Queenstown are scenically beautiful. But it is also a real tourist town, which is why it is called the adventure and adrenaline capital of New Zealand. No matter what kind of tour, everything can be booked in Queenstown.

We spent two days at the Twelve Mile Delta campground. On the 'arrival day' we took care of a few things in Frankton (filling up with fuel, shopping, exchanging hiking shoes). Our hiking shoes were supposed to be waterproof, but unfortunately they weren't, so we had to exchange them for the second time. This time we decided on hiking shoes made of genuine leather, and with discounts before Black Friday, we paid 73 euros per pair, which we consider really cheap :-).

In Queenstown, we ate at Fergburger. This burger restaurant has achieved such cult status that it is even said that you can't leave this city without eating there. In fact, it was really delicious! On the same day, we also went up to the Skyline lookout point by cable car, which was more spontaneous due to a special offer. This offer also included 6 rides on the luge (toboggan run).
If you are looking for the ultimate 'Mario Kart experience', this is the place to be!
The cable car ride usually costs $44 per person, and 5 rides on the luge cost an additional $63 per person. With the special offer, we paid 'only' $69 per person, but we think it was so worth it!
As a tip for everyone who happens to be in Queenstown, check out special offers in advance on getyourguide.de or bookme.com. We actually bought our special offer directly on site, but it's still worth comparing.
To briefly address the issue of parking, download the 'Wikicamps' or 'Campermate' app. With these apps, you can filter everything imaginable (drinking water points, parking spaces, campsites with various amenities, hostels, gas stations, and much more). The apps also include reviews, photos, and price lists if available.
