12.+13.01.2020 Shelly Beach

Funny, actually we thought we would spend a whole week in the Coromandel region. In the end, it was only 2 days.

You never know how things will turn out, but the campsites there didn't make it easy for us. The last few days, we felt like we were just driving from point to point. So we were looking for a place where we could stay for more than one day and not have to leave at 8 in the morning and only be allowed to arrive at 5 in the evening (there are places like that too).

At the moment, the campsites look like parking lots at the beach, here three spaces have been created or marked especially for campers.

We wanted to explore the 'Northlands' before going past or through Auckland before heading back to the city. We spent two days at Shelly Beach, 'Sunrise Boulevard Freedom Camping', which was also a camping spot just as described before. But this place also had trees, so we had shade, and we could look directly onto the beach from the bed. There was also an outdoor shower (cold) and a public toilet. There were even public BBQs (grills), all in all a great place to stay for a longer period. Unfortunately, you were only allowed to stay here for 2 nights. What did we do at the beach? Obviously, we went fishing :-D. Otherwise, we just rested somehow. We really didn't sleep well the last few nights.

In the night constant car doors slamming and people driving by the campsite with bass music, and this morning at 6 it started with pipe work across the street. At 7, the first campers left because it was so loud, and from 8, families with children came to the beach, who seemed to compete about who could scream the loudest. In the afternoon, we tried to sleep again, but then children and seagulls took turns screaming. A vicious circle.
