Goodbye crazy Grandpa

Update on 23.04.23

We had already told Dimi at the beginning that we would stay for a maximum of 2-3 days. So today was the farewell and the continuation of the journey. On the one hand, we were naturally somewhat sentimental, on the other hand, we were also happy to return to our uncomplicated, self-determined travel routine. There were certainly challenging situations and ones where you briefly ask yourself what you are actually doing here. All in all, however, they were beautiful, eventful, exciting days and many unforgettable moments, together with Dimitri and the animals.

Before we would test the off-road quality of our motorhomes one last time, we were allowed to stock up on tons of oranges, lemons, etc. that we had captured the day before. Dimitri insisted that we take as much as possible of it with us. We did that and thus secured ourselves fresh orange juice for the next few weeks. We also got our own olive oil on top. Enough for the next 1000 salads, too.

Now there was also the sandy, bumpy track that already showed me and Bürsti certain limits on the way there.

I was just going downhill with momentum and would have liked to take the momentum with me to the next hill, when Dimitri was standing down on the road with his moped because he wanted to give me tips on how to drive best. That's why I had to brake extra to get stuck right away when starting. Hooray.

Somehow I got out backwards again, tried again with a little momentum, but just before I reached the top on the other side, the tires spun again and dug in.

In general, Bürsti can always be relied on and has also made a good impression on Europe's dilapidated roads, as well as on the countless gravel tracks with unsightly potholes. And even though he sometimes likes to be a 4x4, he remains a charming, cozy grandpa at heart, who shines mostly through his experience, has remained fit, but can no longer keep up completely with the young wild models of today.

I didn't even try to do something because Dimitri was already on his way to get his car to pull me out. I thought this might not end well...

Fortunately, I always have one or more slacklines with me, which of course also serve as excellent tow ropes. 20m high-strength polyester yarn from the company Spiderslacklines, model: Fly. ADAC tested. My recommendation for every travel adventure.

Actually, the first attempt worked and Bürsti was literally over the hill.

Wow. Now let's find a place to calm down a bit...

For us, it went about 100km further south, near Kalamata, to a cozy beach that even had showers to offer. The perfect place after almost 4 days of workaway with Dimitri.

It was a great experience afterwards. It was really fun and many things will stay in my memory for a long time.

Dimitri is always happy to have visitors, and he said we can also do some advertising. So if you are not already too scared off and have always wanted to visit beautiful Greece, please feel free to contact me. The crazy grandpa is looking forward to it...
