The Glowworm Cave

The weather doesn't seem to be very good to me somehow. It has been raining all day in Rotorua, not all day, but more often during the day.

After Rotorua, I went to the Coromandel Peninsula, where I stayed at a campsite for 2 nights because I wanted to take a boat tour. However, when I arrived there, the boat tour was canceled due to the bad weather. Great! There was no alternative date for me.

Now I am in Waitomo and visited the famous Glowworm Cave today. Taking photos inside was not allowed, so I bought this postcard afterwards.

The Waitomo Cave is very touristy. The whole path is paved with straight cobblestones, and the ladders are securely mounted. That was a bit strange.

When the lights were turned off for the first time, I was already amazed. So many lights were visible. Really astonishing!

After that, we went deeper into the cave and onto a boat because part of the cave is flooded with water and the majority of the glowworms live above the water. In complete darkness, we took the boat through the cave. Our guide pulled us through the cave using ropes attached to the walls. Just around the next corner, the amazement was even greater. It looked like a huge painting on the ceiling. So many glowworms were there to see. Wonderfully beautiful!!!
