Our first day in Cancun started very early - jetlag! We were wide awake at 5 a.m. and could get ready for breakfast in peace. We were also able to watch the beautiful sunrise from our hotel room overlooking the Hotel Zone.
For breakfast, we had scrambled eggs, toast, and waffles, as well as Mexican specialties, such as a nacho stew with cream cheese, onions, and salsa. The breakfast was good and the Mexican dishes were delicious.
After breakfast, we headed out to experience Cancun Downtown. In the first side street, we were greeted by an iguana on the open street.
Our first destination was Mercado 28 - a market with many small stalls. However, it was very touristy and every vendor approached us individually, so we quickly left.
The midday sun was more of a challenge than we thought, so we sought shelter in a Walmart. There, we got an overview of the local and American product range.
Leonie was especially interested in the local snacks and put together a small selection. Here's a little rating:
The gummy bears get 8/10 stars. The texture is much softer than German gummy bears, but unfortunately, the orange gummy bears don't taste as delicious. Therefore, a deduction of 2 stars. The filled brownies (white packaging) get 7/10 stars. The chocolatey taste is good, but not mind-blowing. On the other hand, the last snack gets a smooth 10/10!! It is a Nutella-filled roll wrapped in a chocolate and rice crispy filling - a poem! There will certainly be more typical local snacks to come, so stay tuned!
