We start today on a sightseeing tour with a full program. First, we visit the wooden church of Hronsek, located near Sliac. The 200-year-old evangelical church is a half-timbered building without any metallic parts. Its floor plan is a Greek cross. Very impressive!
The next stop is Banska Bystrica (Neusohl). We visit the beautiful old town with its attractions, cafes, restaurants, and shops. Around the main square, there is a pedestrian zone with beautifully restored houses. A black obelisk adorns the square. We can stroll around relaxed, as there are only a few people around. We will also make a short visit to the large shopping center "Europa".
Then we continue to Turcianske Teplice (Bad Steben). The small spa town is located on a plateau between the slopes of the Great Fatra and the Kremnitz Mountains. Here, we just take a stroll through the beautiful spa park.
From here, we continue to Kremnica
(Kremnitz). Since the 13th century, Kremnitz was inhabited by Germans (miners) and was famous as a coin minting town throughout Europe. The medieval old town is still surrounded by a
well-preserved city wall. Coming from the south, you enter through the
Lower Town Gate. You reach the market square and there is a
large meadow surrounded by stately bourgeois houses. Very pretty!
Now, we take a detour up a winding road to Skalka mountain to enjoy the fresh mountain air at an altitude of over 1200 meters. Up there, there is some excursion activity, but there are hardly any foreigners.
Our last stop today is the
city of Zvolen (Altsohl), where we park directly at the New Castle. Of course, we visit the freely accessible castle courtyard and have a coffee there. Then we walk over to the nearby long
market square with beautiful churches and Renaissance houses. The wide pedestrian zone invites you to linger with shady trees and many seating areas. That's what we'll do!
We notice that here, too - like everywhere in the towns we visit - there are relatively few people around. It is quiet and there is no sign of tourist hustle and bustle, which suits us just fine. So we can relax here, and of course, there is also ice cream...
We have certainly covered more than 100 km by the time we return to Sliac in the evening, but the tour was eventful and the summer weather accompanied us once again.
We end the evening with a bottle of wine.
