Babinda - The Boulders

Udgivet: 18.09.2016

The first days of our tour were spent in Babinda, a small town on the Bruce Highway towards Innisfail. Already on the way there, we found a hidden idyllic spot and realized that it was going to be really adventurous. Cold showers, countless insects, lizards and other animals, as well as canned food... but we were ready to explore nature and the Outback for 20 days.

The Legend of the Boulders

The legend of the Boulders states that a young Aboriginal girl named Oolana was promised to an elder of her tribe, but fell in love with Dyga, a boy from another tribe. The two ran away, but were immediately caught by the others and brought back to their tribe to be guarded. Oolana escaped, plunged into the waters and tried to swim upstream to her lover. The story did not end well and to this day, the Aborigines believe that her spirit travels young wanderers to death because she is still searching for her lost love.

The photos do not even come close to reflecting how breathtaking and gigantic the sight of the Boulders is. The rainforest in this area is the most complex in northern Queensland and animals such as the Ulysses butterfly, the Cairns Birdwing butterfly, and the funniest bird species inhabit the area.
