Roadtrip Part I Vancouver

Cyhoeddwyd: 19.05.2018

19.05.2018 After boring you with mundane Canadian everyday stuff for the past few weeks, we are now moving on to more exciting things. We are going on a big tour across the continent. Finally, here is what we left Germany and came to Canada for 4 months ago.

Before we started, we had to pack our car, which was going to be our home for the next few weeks. This also resulted in clearing out our room and, of course, a room inspection. Being the way we are, we completely trashed the room to leave a lasting impression on the Canadians. Unfortunately, we had some last-minute stress with our 'landlord' and his sister. In the end, she wouldn't even talk to us without any apparent reason. Well, never mind, one more Canadian who doesn't like us - no problem. And the 'landlord' was a bit stressed because we moved out earlier than agreed. Even though it was clear from the beginning that we were only staying until mid-May. In the end, we paid the full rent for May and luckily, we will get some of the money back if someone moves in right after us. After successfully handing over our room, we went to Value Village one last time to say goodbye to our newly acquired friends. Since we arrived during lunch break, everyone was gathered in the break room. One by one, they wished us a great trip and all the best. Everything seemed a bit surreal, having to leave already. The past few weeks went by so quickly and we would have liked to stay longer, now that it was getting warmer and we were getting closer to our Canadian friends. With a mix of laughter and tears, we embarked on our new adventure.

The first stop was Vancouver. For that, Jim Bob had to take his first ferry ride. From Swartz Bay in Sidney (questionable who stole what here), the ferry sailed past many small islands (very worth seeing) to Tsawwassen in Vancouver. On the way to our hotel, we immediately experienced the pitfalls of Google Maps and got lost. But after relying less on Google Maps and paying more attention to the signs, the rest went smoothly. With some luck, we got a small upgrade in terms of our accommodation. Since the toilet in the original accommodation was broken, we now had a whole floor to ourselves, again in the basement, but with a kitchen.

After a short break, we walked to the nearby Queen Elizabeth Park. From here, you have a beautiful view of downtown Vancouver. Because the highest point in the park is about 167 meters above sea level. We enjoyed the clear view and the nature before returning to city life. From the park, we walked towards 'General Public Sushi Lodge'. Because we had arranged to have dinner with Susi there. First, ordered a Mojito (however, Canadians are not the best at making Mojitos...no cane sugar) before we struggled through the menu. The sushi was by far the best I have ever eaten. Excellent. We ended the evening at a bar.
