The Carjackers

Publicatu: 25.02.2017

Eventful days are behind us. On Thursday morning, we had our briefing regarding work. Now we can also reveal the secret. We applied at Gourmet Blueberries Limited. Originally, we applied for something other than picking blueberries, but now we are employed as pickers there. Monday is our first day of work. We have to be there at 6:30 a.m. So set the alarm clock one hour earlier. It'll be fun...

The rest of Thursday was unspectacular, but Friday was buzzing. First, we were awakened by a few teenagers who were speeding on a nearby river with a speedboat. I didn't think it could be so loud. All the other campers ran straight to the shore with their smartphones and filmed it. It was pretty cool to watch, it made being woken up less annoying.

In the afternoon, we drove to another campsite, which was directly in Napier. We went for a walk there at dusk and discovered some spectacular things. Glowing fountains. Napier is really beautiful. Hawke's Bay is a must for anyone traveling to New Zealand!

After the walk, we got into the car and read a bit before we went to sleep. I nodded off at some point. Svenja then woke me up to brush my teeth. So I had to pull myself together and come along. When we arrived at the 'bathroom' (we now kindly call the public toilet that), I remembered that I had forgotten something in the car. So I went back and... the car was locked, with the key inside. Seriously now? We had locked ourselves out. Luckily, we had a spare key that was in Svenja's bag... WHICH WAS ALSO IN THE CAR. Wonderful. It was the middle of the night, freezing cold, we were hardly dressed and couldn't get into the car. What now? After 15 minutes of thinking and trying things out, I couldn't handle it anymore.

Fortunately, the campsites are monitored and guarded. So I went to the security and asked if they could help me break into my car. They immediately said yes, of course. I was slightly shocked, but happy. Later it turned out that we were not the only idiots who locked themselves out. The two security guards had apparently been asked for help several times before. However, it was more difficult for us than expected. It took a whole 40 minutes, but hey, they did it! If something like this happens again, I'm prepared.

So we were able to sleep in our nice bed and didn't have to curl up in some bushes and cover ourselves with grass.

Today we were at the Maraetotara Falls. It was beautiful.

Afterwards, we played badminton, which was really nice with all the wind. Especially when the 'ball' kept getting stuck in the trees and we had to somehow get it out.

Let's get back to the waterfalls. Or well, just take a look at the pictures...
