Ready for the Island: Koh Jum and Koh Pu

THAILAND, KOH JUM, KOH PU

We arrived from Krabi by taxi and then by a small boat to 'our' small island, which is located south of Krabi.

There is not much going on here at this time of year! The rather changeable weather and strong winds keep most tourists (fortunately for us) from traveling to this region of Thailand. Therefore, most resorts, restaurants, and inviting beach bars are closed.

The good thing about this is that you can easily focus on the essentials, which there is plenty to admire and observe. For example, I love to walk alone on the beach and spend hours looking for 'treasures', such as beautiful shells or, specifically here, beautiful colorful stones.

As a usually obsessed music lover, I don't even need my iPod here, just the sound of the waves and the singing of the birds.

Countless hermit crabs busy themselves on the beach and create - as I find - very artistic patterns in the sand.

In the lovingly landscaped garden of the resort, not only did we feel very comfortable, but also various animals, such as a slightly shy tree snake and the cute flying lizards in front of our terrace.

Occasionally, a few monkeys also came by;), which are not so welcome among the locals, because they are known as skillful thieves of anything accessible to them.

So we spent a wonderful week until our little paradise was occupied by a Chinese film crew and suddenly turned into a film set. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere was gone...

However, the hotel manager approached us and offered us (free of charge, as it would later be) a transfer to a resort in the north of the island, called Koh Pu. We gladly accepted the offer and moved into a small villa located directly in a small bay.

In the meantime, we explored the island on foot.

Many locals live here along with income from tourism, mainly from rubber extraction.

We visited the small fishing village several times, and Peter enjoyed delicious freshly caught fish there. The people live in extremely modest huts, but radiate a contentment and friendliness that is occasionally missing in our society....

We also saw these strangely colored chicks in the village...unfortunately a trend in the Asian region.

During our walks, to my great joy, we often encountered various exotic animals. Particularly beautiful are the stunning butterflies, which from afar could even be mistaken for birds due to their size.

Also impressive in terms of size was this venomous silk spider, with a total span of about 10 cm!

Also cute was this little frog here with its almost perfect camouflage.

The young dog of the house gladly kept us company. Otherwise, he passed the time with chasing waves and playing on the beach.

Time flew by here. But now it's time to go back to Krabi, from where we will continue flying to Bangkok to spend a few more days there.
