Yosemite National Park

Publicatu: 04.10.2017

New weekend, new adventure!

For national parks, no distance is too far! We spent a total of 14 hours in the car last weekend to explore Yosemite National Park for just under 2 days.

We started on Friday morning at five o'clock to get through the L.A. traffic as smoothly as possible - ...that didn't work out, as the streets in and around L.A. were already crowded at five! Nevertheless, we made relatively good progress for L.A. standards and reached the national park as planned around noon. 7 hours of driving, which you would probably never undertake for just one overnight stay in Germany, went surprisingly quickly thanks to numerous Spotify playlists, internal car karaoke competitions, and pit stops.

Arriving in Yosemite, the long car journey and lack of sleep did not stop us from embarking on a hike to a waterfall. So we hiked uphill to Vernal Fall for about three hours - what initially looked like a relaxed hiking route turned into a real workout due to countless steps.

On the next and unfortunately already last day in Yosemite, we couldn't take a long hike because we had to save our energy for the long car journey in the evening. So we just went with the flow and stopped at all the interesting viewpoints on the way to Glacier Point. Right from the start, we made a stop for climbing at Bridalveil Fall. Then we made further small stops on the way to Glacier Point to enjoy the views and of course take countless souvenir photos!

When we arrived at Glacier Point, we were initially overwhelmed by the cold, which we were no longer used to after our two months in California: Equipped with a top, t-shirt, sweater, and sweatshirt jacket, we dared to leave the car and found a spot away from all the other tourists from which we had a perfect view of Half Dome, which was beautifully illuminated in pink and red at sunset.
