Stopover Singapore

بڵاوکراوەتەوە: 27.06.2017

After reluctantly leaving Bali and Indonesia behind, we were excited to explore the next big city highlight of our trip in Singapore. We were fortunate that Tobi had visited Singapore a few years earlier, which had a positive influence on the hotel selection.

Once again, we arranged for a Grab taxi from the airport to our accommodation. We stayed at the 5footway Inn Project Boat Quay, a small room of approximately 6 m², right in the center of the city. While the room was smaller compared to our previous accommodations, the location was unbeatable, with Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion Park, Gardens by the Bay, and Clarke Quay all within walking distance. These landmarks formed our sightseeing program for the next 2.5 days.

On our first evening in Singapore, we enjoyed the stunning rooftop terrace of our hostel (with free coffee and water) and then strolled to the famous Singapore Merlion to watch the nightly laser show at Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

The next day, we had a packed sightseeing schedule, with perfect weather. The sky was clear blue, and the temperature was over 35°, which even the locals found too hot. Fortunately, Singapore has many shopping malls and air-conditioned underground passages, which provided relief from the heat.

Our first stop was the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and the adjacent museum, as well as the Helix Bridge. We admired all of these from the outside.

After a slightly longer break to rehydrate, we headed straight to Gardens by the Bay, a must-visit attraction in Singapore. The garden with its towering Supertrees is incredibly beautiful. Additionally, we visited the Cloud Forest in Gardens by the Bay, which provides a welcome escape from the heat with its artificially controlled climate and stunning views.

Of course, such a trip requires good planning. In the evening, there was a big show in the park to celebrate its 5th anniversary. ;-)

Although we only found out about it during our visit, we didn't want to miss the show and secured one of the best spots to watch it. =)

We walked back past Marina Bay Sands, crossing the Helix Bridge and the Merlion Park.

The second day in Singapore was primarily focused on organization. We spent about 1.5 hours at a post office to finally send a 5kg package to Germany by sea freight, costing approximately €50. It was unbelievable... But we needed to get rid of some of our warmer clothes, as we wouldn't need them for the rest of our journey, and they were taking up too much space in our backpacks. Later, we arranged our bus ticket for the next day to Kuala Lumpur and made a brief visit to Arab Street, where we felt like we were in the Middle East even though we were in the heart of Singapore.

A tip for affordable and delicious food is to visit the Hawker Centers scattered throughout the city. ;-)

In the evening, we had a joyful reunion that had been planned in advance. We visited the Hansgrohe subsidiary in Singapore. After a short and impressive showroom and office tour by Tobi's colleague Angie, we had dinner together, which turned out to be one of the culinary highlights of our entire trip. Thank you Angie for the fantastic evening and your support =) – Vielen Dank Angie für den tollen Abend und die Unterstützung. Wir freuen uns darauf, dich nächstes Jahr in Deutschland willkommen zu heißen =)
