Somehow we were of the opinion that we have to visit Tulum. After all, it is located directly by the sea, which makes it special compared to the other Mayan ruins we have visited so far.
We are early, which has always proven to be useful in the past. However, the tourist buses are also here early. In addition to the buses from Cancun and the resorts along the so-called Routa de Maya, there are also cruise ship passengers from Playa del Carmen.
To put it bluntly, the ruins are nice, as they form a completely different ensemble compared to the places we have visited before. However, the tourism is unbearable. There is practically a small town of souvenir shops, restaurants, and other stalls in front of it.
Which means... hurry up, take photos without a thousand people in the picture, and get out quickly. While noticing that more buses are still arriving.
Equally disappointing is the hotel strip to the south. Nice little boutique hotels. But one after the other for kilometers until the biosphere reserve where we once again cannot enter because of our dog. So we have to drive back for kilometers at a snail's pace.
