14.07.2024 – Lost at Sea – Chapter Five

بڵاوکراوەتەوە: 14.07.2024

Not quite so "Lost at Sea" anymore, we are slowly approaching the solid ground of Iceland. Honestly, we are hungry for it...

The sea has become a bit stormier or more unsettled again. We "stagger" towards the breakfast buffet. As usual, everything is occupied and we once again walk long distances to get a seat... it's annoying... when will we finally be on land? And, more importantly, when will there be internet again? The TV program has become a bit more diverse again. We are now receiving some German channels again, after receiving only Eurosport, Rai, and RTL for several days. At some point, it's time to say goodbye to "Take me out – the party special, Barbara Salesch, or the court show with the most exciting and realistic scripts ever. The actors are also top-notch. Or the European Championship studio with Elton... also absolutely worth watching.

After breakfast, we return to the cabin. We turn on the TV and learn from the news talk show for the first time that there has been an attack on Trump. In the talk show, they speculate about who ordered it. Was it Trump himself or did Sleepy Joe order it... no one knows (yet).

We switch to the TV garden with Andrea Kiwel. You have to find ways to pass the time. We learn Mallorca songs and the choreography for the "Ant Song" and think that Kiwel is just... What does "putting the potato on one" actually mean (we heard it for the first time in the European Championship studio yesterday and were puzzled...), a group at Kiwel's show mentioned it again, but we still don't have an explanation for it. It's also time for us to get online...

Let's turn back to the ship. Today, some written gossip about the people on board. There is a noticeable number of Chinese passengers on board. And many Italians (maybe because MSC is an Italian cruise line?), who like to sit in groups of five to seven and entertain the whole deck, at least in terms of volume.

However, most are Germans and retirees. Primarily from the new federal states. The most common clothing sizes are XXL and fashion from Ulla Popken and Camp David. But the food is so delicious and abundant... 😉

And predominantly, there are experienced and therefore well-to-do cruisers here. Many talk about their multiple trips to various countries and with various cruise lines. And when you hear about how much people spend here on board... helicopter flights and ship tours to the fjords in Nuuk, for example, are not uncommon. A couple tells us about the flight over the icebergs in Nuuk and the fjord excursions. They paid 2,800 euros for that. Certainly a great experience, but that excursion wouldn't be worth the money for us. That's what we book another trip for. And almost everyone here has and/or a drinks package and an internet package. Fewest drink the free coffee or the free water. Everything else has to be paid with the onboard card. This can quickly add up to several hundred euros. So we "just can't believe our ears"...

Well, we also feel that in our clothing (despite multiple workout sessions). We are curious to see if the rule "One kilo more for every week of cruising" will prove true for us too. But these are "issues" that we can quickly get under control back home.

The rest of the day drags on, with foggy and rainy weather again – somehow the air is out and life on board bores us. It's certain now that we won't undertake such a long sea voyage, which lasts over 28 days in total. We are not "inactive" enough for that.

So we are now waiting for the evening when we will dock in Reykjavik and we will definitely venture out into the city.
