Over hill and dale

بڵاوکراوەتەوە: 30.08.2023

08/16 (Wednesday)

Breakfast today (almost) made up for yesterday's rainy day. We woke up to bright sunshine, the water in the fjord was sparkling and we set up a table and chairs to enjoy our porridge with an incredible view. The campsite is not suitable for a longer stay (FLothyl Camping), as there are no common rooms and no connection to hiking trails etc., but it was perfect for a breakfast by the fjord. Michel was in a good mood, but unfortunately he had been there since 5:50. Luckily, Sven and I tend to be early risers. We had planned on Sundal Camping for today because we wanted to do the short hike to Bondhust Glacier Lake. Unfortunately, the weather got a little worse on the journey (approx. 2 hours) and we arrived in clouds and light fog. Michel slept almost the entire time, thanks to the crackling book and good coaxing.

The hike itself was doable with a stroller up to the beginning of the lake, after which it became rockier and steeper. Not a problem in dry conditions, but a slippery affair in rain and fog and Sven (justifiably) became more and more tense the further we went. Shortly before the end of the hike (it was maybe 100m left) we had to give up because the last part down to the lake was just too muddy and slippery and Michel also became restless in the stretcher. That's how it is with a baby, sometimes you have to turn around at the last meter. But here too, the journey is the destination and I am always proud of us AND of Michel, what is possible. We can hardly wait to go hiking with him in the carrier and most of all we are looking forward to his little legs carrying him up the mountains themselves at some point.

When the sun shines the lake shimmers turquoise blue, we could at least imagine it. The tour is quite touristy, but not overcrowded. Certainly not the most beautiful hike on this holiday, but after two days of rain we really enjoyed the exercise and the nature.

The camping site was fine. It is located directly on the fjord, there was little privacy in the plots and unfortunately there were no designated places so that everyone could stand as they wanted. That can sometimes become problematic. We were lucky with our neighbors.

The later it got, the worse the weather became. Michel needed a lot of closeness again and so we had dinner in a whisper on the bed in the camper. This is also part of a camper holiday with a baby.
