Day 19: Brighton, the Seven Sisters

In the evening, before going to sleep, we go to the washrooms and a fox crosses our path. There are also signs warning against leaving food and shoes outside. We follow the rules and the fox leaves us alone.
Since we couldn't visit the seaside resort of Brighton yesterday, we start with it today. We quickly find a parking space, unfortunately, it can only be paid for with an app. Since the internet is weak, it takes a while to set up and pay for everything. Then we walk into the city center. The coastal town became known as 'London by the Sea' in the mid-18th century, thanks to the extravagant Prince Regent George. He had a royal pavilion built here from 1815 to 1823 in an Indian style. We take in the palace from the outside and circle it once. Then we see a building directly on the promenade that is being demolished. A fire two weeks ago destroyed half of the hotel there. It's amazing how fast that goes. We watch the demolition work for a while and walk along the long pier. At the end, an amusement park is set up, but the prices scare us away, so we head back to the car. I can't see the glamour of Brighton anymore, it has clearly aged. In addition, there are many tourists around and the prices are excessive. Next, we drive to Seaford, a small town east of Brighton. This is where the cliff coast begins. We have lunch on a bench on the beach. Then we walk a short distance to get a view of the cliff coast, but unfortunately, it's only a short one.
Next, we go up the hill of the chalk cliffs, also known as the South Downs. There we start a hike of about an hour. The path goes downhill through meadows, sometimes with bushes at the edge. Then we reach the cliff and are impressed by this great view. In front of us, the chalk cliffs stretch out. This formation is called the Seven Sisters because there are 7 rock projections. In the bright sun, it looks amazingly beautiful. Then we hike along the cliff to a small cottage, which provides a nice photo opportunity in combination with the cliffs. Now we return to the parking lot, mostly uphill, but we're back at the car quickly. We enjoy a coffee. Then the next stretch only takes 20 minutes. Now we're at the Seven Sisters in the National Trust. We now look in the other direction. There are some steps and we reach the pebble beach. The tide will soon come in, so we only stay briefly and move on. After 3 kilometers, we stop at Beachy Head and see a small red lighthouse in the water with the chalk cliffs. Since the sun has disappeared behind clouds, the pictures are not quite as stunning anymore.
Due to lack of time, we only have a brief sightseeing of the promenade in Eastbourne from the car. The streets are crowded, and it takes us more than an hour to reach Hastings. There, we settle in our parking space outside. Unfortunately, it starts raining now, and we retreat to our car after dinner.
